Research in Motion has opened an online store offering a variety of entertainment, news, travel and gaming applications for its Blackberry smartphone.
According to Reuters, the store is open to customers from the UK, the US and Canada and unlike its Apple counterpart, software developers will be able to pocket 80 per cent of the revenue generated by their programs.
The remaining twenty per cent will be divided between RIM and network operators.
“The BlackBerry platform provides a truly unparalleled mobile experience for millions of people and we are thrilled today to enhance that experience with a new app store that helps connect consumers with developers and carriers,” said RIM’s President and Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis.
