Microsoft has announced that it has developed a dedicated BlackBerry application for its Bing search engine.
"We’re happy to share that the Bing for mobile application is available on the brand new Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2, and is now rolling out to Verizon BlackBerry Storm 1 users," says a post on the official Bing blog.
"Simply go to the Bing icon on your device to use the app."
Icon on the device? Yes, it seems that Verizon Wireless has pushed the Bing for Mobile app out to owners of the two Storm handsets - which should drive takeup faster than simply making it available in an app store, albeit at the risk of being seen as intrusive by users.
The announcement follows months of endeavour on Microsoft's part to see its new search engine topple Google.
As part of its efforts, Microsoft has struck a deal with Twitter to provide a real-time tweet search engine, as well as unveil its new 'visual search' service.
However, recent analysis suggests Google is extending its lead over Bing even further.
