Bill Gates: Internet censorship doomed to failure

Bill Gates: Internet censorship doomed to failure In a speech to Stanford University students yesterday Microsoft boss and founder Bill Gates has stated that attempts from certain governments to curtail the use and freedom of the internet will ultimately fail.

InfoWorld quotes the spectacled computing guru as stating: "I don't see any risk in the world at large that someone will restrict free content flow on the Internet. You cannot control the Internet."

He added that the main reason why restrictive efforts will fail is due to economic interests, as limits on free speech will also curtail business activity: "If your country wants to have a developed economy, you basically have to open up the Internet."
