Best of British indie gaming to be showcased at Gadget Show Live 2016

This year’s Gadget Show Live will be putting a spotlight on some of the best British independent gaming studios at the event at Birmingham’s NEC on March 31st.

The four-day show will host an Indie Zone showcasing eight British studios.

The developers’ games will range from quirky puzzle platformers Hue and Bip, to Line Wobbler, a one-dimensional dungeon crawler game with a custom controller made out of spring and a 5m long LED strip display, and Blockships, described as ‘the illegitimate love child of Space Invaders and Tetris’.

Indie Zone visitors looking for a little faster-paced action will enjoy racing games Drive Any Track and VR title Radial-G: Racing Revolved, and the frenetic ‘Simon Says’-style Button Frenzy.

After entering a competition to win free stand space and the chance to demo their game to 75,000 consumers over four days, the following eight studios (listed in no particular order) were chosen as the winners.

Fiddlesticks with Hue
Coatsink with Esper 2
Al Panic with Line Wobbler
DrDavient with Blockships
Foam Entertainment with Drive Any Track
Invisibit Studios with Bip
zerofiftyone with Button Frenzy
Tammeka with Radial-G: Racing Revolved

The show’s organisers are hoping budding game developers visiting the show will be inspired to enter in 2017.

“Technological advances mean developers have both the access and the means to self-publish content, which has unlocked the potential for an influx of creativity flooding the market,” explained Gadget Show Live event director Sally Bent.

“Dropping the barriers to entry also means the volume of games being published has gone up, which is great, but it’s proving harder for gamers to discover new, good quality content that’s right for them and harder for developers to get their games discovered. The Indie Zone at Gadget Show Live will solve both of these problems.”
