Over £240,000 worth of laptops and mobiles belonging to the BBC have been lost or stolen over the past two years.
According to BBC News, a Freedom of Information request revealed that 146 laptops, 65 mobile phones and 17 Blackberrys went missing between April 2008 and March this year.
The products were collectively worth £241,019 – with the majority of the cost comprising of laptops. However, 19 devices worth £23,450 were later recovered.
A BBC spokesperson said the corporation took thefts very seriously, adding that “in any large organisation there is an inevitable risk of theft.”
The spokesperson added that mobiles are "appropriately protected" and, if necessary, "data security breach procedures" are put in place as soon as a device is reported missing.
