Avnet has announced its intentions to acquire the IT solutions arm of Acal for £41 million – saying it had reached a "definitive agreement" with the reseller.The Storage Area Networking reseller has agreements with several major vendors including Cisco, Brocade, Qlogic and Kodak in Europe.
The deal, which is subject to approval by Acal's shareholders and European merger control clearance, will see all 180 Acal staff join Avnet's technology solutions EMEA division.
Speaking about the deal, Acal chairman Richard Moon said: "Following a strategic review last year the board of Acal plc has concluded that the development of its IT solutions business would be best served as a part of a larger organisation with an international reach."
