Asus has launched the firm's first ultrabook devices, the 11-inch Zenbook UX21 and 13-inch Zenbook UX31.
Confirming for the first time that at least one manufacturer has managed to hit Intel's promised $999 price point, the Taiwanese notebook giant confirmed that the Intel Core i5-2467M based Zenbook UX21 will cost £849.
The money buys a 1366 x 768 11.6-inch display, 128GB SSD, 4GB of RAM, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a five-hour 35Wh batery, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, micro HDMI and VGA interfaces all crammed into a chassis just 17mm at the thickest.
The Zenbook UX31 is £999, adding a larger 13-inch screen with 1,600 x 900 resolution as well as an SD card reader. Higher-end models will offer larger storage and faster Intel Core i7 processors.
The new Zenbooks will go on sale in the US today. They will be available in the Uk from October 21st.
