The new Asus Eee PC X101 powered by the MeeGo operating system has been spied in Europe and given the video unboxing treatment by German tech site Newgadgets.de.
The super slim 10-inch X101 is an effort by Eee PC maker Asus to reboot the netbook category by bringing ultraportable-like dimensions, under 17.6mm in this case, to the low end notebook category.
In a video unboxing, newgadgets.de's Johannes Knapp describes the X101 as a "really thin, really light and especially really cheap" device, pointing out that it's available for 169 euros in Germany and $199 in the US.
The X101 isn't pushing much in the hardware specification department with a 1.3GHz Intel Atom N435, 1GB of RAM and a tiny 8GB SSD. The small SSD is only made possible by using Intel's MeeGo operating system, the very same that Nokia dumped in favor of Windows Mobile.
Knapp appeared impressed by the smoothness and features of the MeeGo operating system but noted that the device was unable to stream YouTube smoothly.
