The new Asus ARES ultra high-end video card has been benchmarked as fastest in the world.
"Summarizing the Asus ARES' performance couldn't be any easier. Quite simply, the Asus ARES is the fastest graphics card we have ever tested," said Hot Hardware in the first benchmarks of the $1,200 dual ATI Radeon 5870 graphics card.
The striking card will ship in an impressive metal briefcase and comes bundled with a high-end gaming mouse, however the card also costs around 20 per cent more than two 5870 2GB cards in a cross fire configuration.
The Asus ARES Dual Radeon HD 5870 4GB managed to deliver 127.1 frames per second in 1920 x 1200 resolution in the demanding FarCry 2 benchmark in DirectX 10 Ultra Quality mode with 4X anti-aliasing enabled.
The benchmarks crushed all other cards on the market including the next highest performer, the ATI 5970 and even leaves the door open to using two of the cards in an Crossfire configuration although we're at a bit of a loss to think of what you'd do with this performance, let alone two of them.
In a move reminiscent of a limited run sports car, Asus only intends to introduce 1,000 of the cards to the US market.
