Asus has unveiled a 12X external Blu-ray writer armed with USB 3.0 which offers the world's fastest Blu-ray writing speeds.
Capable of writing a slew of optical disk formats from the lowly CD-R (40x) up to single player Blu-ray disks (12x) and double layer disks (8x), the Asus BW-12D1S-U has a 4MB data buffer and may be mounted vertically or horizontally.
The BW-12D1S-U will also be bundled with a package of Cyberlink software including InstaBurn 5, PowerBack 2.5, Power2Go 7 and PowerDVD 10 with Magic Cinema. The latter Magic Cinema is capable of creating 3D Blu-ray disks to give "depth" to 2D sources.
Asus say that a Pentium D 945 3.4GHz or higher is necessary as well as a HDCP compatible display and video card. Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 are supported by the included software.
No pricing or availability has so far been announced.
