Retail giant Argos will be celebrating its 35th birthday this week by expanding its product range. The first Argos catalogue, launched in 1973, contained 4,700 products in 250 pages. Thirty-five years and 70 editions later, the catalogue is a colossal 1800 pages long, contains over 18,000 products and is likely to be in two-thirds of UK households.
In acknowledgement of recent financial troubles across the spectrum, the new version will also include an extended Argos Value section – a move that the retailer hopes will help to boost its competitiveness in an increasingly cramped market.
Sara Weller, managing director of Argos said: “The catalogue has been recognised as a cultural icon and we’re delighted to be celebrating our 35th anniversary this week by introducing our biggest and best book yet”.
