French manufacturer Archos has unveiled a pair of new third generation G9 Android tablets in 8 and 10-inch sizes.
Both the Archos 80 G9 and the Archos 101 G9 are powered by a TI OMAP4 dual-core processor running Android 3.2 Honeycomb.
The 8-inch Archos 80 G9 will arrive later this week worldwide with an expected retail price around $299. Substantially less expensive than previous Android Honeycomb tablets, this version is clocked at 1GHz and has 8GB of flash storage.
A 'Turbo' version will appear in October priced at $329 which will have the same OMAP4 dual core processor but clocked at 1.5GHz and will also double the flash storage to 16GB.
Interestingly Archos is also planning a version with a 250GB Seagate Momentus hard drive mated with 4GB of flash with a projected price of $369.
The 10-inch Archos 101 G9 runs at 1.5GHz out of the gate and will also arrive in October, packing 16GB of flash, priced at around $399. A similarly HD equipped alternative will go for $469.
Both tablets are equipped with GPS, 720p front camera, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and a built-in kickstand. Both tablets will play video for 7 hours or browse the web for up to 10 hours.
Rather than produce models with and without 3G, Archos are taking the approach of offering a USB device called the G9 3G Stick which will add-on 3G capability for those users that want it.
