Apple has announced that the 2009 Macworld Expo will be the last such show that the firm attends. Furthermore, the senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller will handle the keynote speech, traditionally given by CEO Steve Jobs.
Apple says it has been scaling back on all its trade shows in recent years, including NAB, the New York and Tokyo Macworld Expo’s and the Apple Expo in Paris, due to its ability to directly reach more than 100 million customers across the globe through Apple.com.
“Macworld Conference & Expo has thrived for 25 years due to the strong support of tens of thousands of people in the Mac community worldwide,” said vice president and general manager of Macworld Expo organizer IDG World Expo, Paul Kent.
“These people use it as a way to find great products, partake in professional development training and cultivate their personal and professional networks.”
