Apple announced that the company would launch an App Store for Macs on the 6th of January. The digital store will provide the OSX platform a similar service to the App Store for iOS-powered mobile devices.
In April this year Mac developer Fernando Valente emailed Apple boss Steve Jobs about ongoing rumours of a Mac App Store with Jobs tersely scotching the possibility with a perfunctory “nope.” However at a media event for the launch of OSX “Lion”, the company announced plans to launch the Mac App Store with submissions beginning in November.
“The App Store revolutionized mobile apps," said Jobs in a statement. , referring to the shop specializing in software programs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices. “We hope to do the same for PC (personal computer) apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun.”
The new Mac App Store will be compatible with Macs running OSX Snow Leopard following a free software update. Just like the iOS App Store, developers will get 70 per cent of the revenue while Jobs and Co will take home 30 per cent of the Apple pie for their efforts
