Will include its own power plant

Apple ‘spaceship’ campus plans revealed

Apple has submitted a development proposal to the Cuppertino city planners for a new space age building called the Apple Campus 2.

The proposal describes a spaceship-like circular building that will comprise of offices as well as research and development facilities. Also included will be a 1,000 seat auditorium, fitness center and 300,000 square feet of research facilities.

The Cupertino city council published a range of materials including renders of the proposed building, site plans and environmental landscaping as well as floor plans of the campus spaceship itself.

A set of artist renders were also published (pdf).

Apple’s stated objectives of the new building is to "maximize efficiency" of the firm’s employees by creating a campus "in a single distinctive office, research and development building."

The building will accommodate up to 13,000 Apple employees and Apple also set out plans to avoid California’s notoriously fragile electicity network by incorporating plans for a power plant of their own.

Presumably with unusual Apple-only power plugs.
