Apple ordered to cease iPhone and iPad sales in Germany

Apple has been ordered to stop selling the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 in Germany after Motorola alleged a violation of patent.

According to PC Advisor, the court order was issued after it was alleged that Apple had violated patent licences relating to a certain GPRS module used in the two devices. The iPhone 4S is exempt from the ban because it uses a Qualcomm version of the same module.

Apple is reported to be appealing the decision with the argument that Motorola had refused to license the patent “on acceptable terms” and that the module was declared to be an industrial patent in 2005.
