Apple has taken the wraps off the biggest change to its MacBook range since it switched to Intel-based processors, with the vendor not only fundamentally changing the design of its products, but also the components contained inside them.The new MacBooks, both 13-inch MacBooks and 15-inch MacBook Pros, come with new aluminium unibody enclosure, which both models share; leading Apple to claim that the new models are the most environmentally friendly in the industry.
Apple has also changed – as expected – the chipset that its laptops use, from the Intel-based ones that it has used since its move over from Power PC-based models, to new Nvidia-based ones.
Steve Jobs described the move to Nvidia as giving the new units had five times the graphical power thanks to the new GeForce 9400M integrated graphics included in the new base level MacBooks. The new MacBooks also benefit from improved graphics, with Nvidia's new GeForce 9600M included.
The MacBooks also now benefit from mutlitouch, which both the Air and MacBook Pro have had since the beginning of the year.
