Apple kicks off recycling scheme in the UK

Apple kicks off recycling scheme in the UK

Apple has kicked off a new "reuse and recycling" programme which the iPhone-maker said provides ways to reuse or recycle older devices such as iPhones, iPads, Mac and even PCs.

The system is effectively administered by the German IT recycling provider Dataserv and consists of filling out information about the device on this web site which will result in an estimate of the value. Dataserv will then send a pre-paid shipping label.

Presumably after the device is received, money will be wired directly into the user's bank account. Apple helpfully suggested that it could be used to purchase a brand-new Mac, iPod, iPhone or iPad - which is jolly nice of them.

It's quite likely that most of the old gear will fetch no money at all but we reckon being able to post old gear off for recycling is better than throwing it in the bin.
