7th of March event for the next-gen iPad while Google's Android chief says the firm will "double down" on tabets efforts.

Apple invites press to iPad 3 launch, Google vows to compete

Apple announced an invitation only event on the 7th of March in San Francisco where the iPhone maker is widely expected to announce the iPad 3.

The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco is the same location used to announce the previous two iterations of the iPad and the press invitation featured a partial image of an iPad.

"We have something you really have to see. And touch," said the invitation.

The key advances of the third generation iPad are expected to include a faster processor, much sharper resolution display and the inclusion of the 4G mobile phone technology LTE.

Earlier in the week arch rival Google’s head of Android, Andy Rubin, revealed that the internet giant would "double down" efforts to compete with Apple’s tablet. While the Google OS has been something of a star-of-show at the Mobile World Conference in the smartphone space, the company seems hungrier than ever to get a slide of Apple’s tablet pie.
