Apple has denied that an overheated lithium ion battery caused the exploding iPhones reported in France earlier this month.
According to the BBC, the vendor has claimed that the broken screens were caused by application of an “external force”.
“To date, there are no confirmed battery overheating incidents for iPhone 3GS and the number of reports we are investigating is in the single digits,” Apple said in a statement.
“The iPhones with broken glass that we have analysed to date show that in all cases the glass cracked due to an external force that was applied to the iPhone."
The French secretary of state for trade and consumer affairs, Herve Novelli, is to question Apple France's commercial director, Michel Coulomb, about the claims.
