Apple has banned screen protector films for iPhones and iPods from being sold in its official stores starting from May.
According to iLounge, several companies have confirmed the move will apply to both retail and online stores and also encompasses films sold for iPads and Mac computers.
Discussions with vendors have reportedly been underway for some time, and the ban will include individually sold screen films, as well as any bundles that include the protectors.
One source told iLounge the decision was a marketing move by Apple in order to suggest its products are durable and therefore don’t need protection. However, like all pocket devices, unprotected iPhone and iPod screens are vulnerable to scratches.
Other vendors and retailers will still continue to sell protective films, despite them not being available directly from Apple.
