Apple backs down over processing fees

Apple backs down over processing fees Apple is to drop charges it previous imposed on customers wishing to return products that they no longer want, after UK computing magazine Computeractive alleged that the firm's 'processing fees' were illegal under UK consumer protection law.

Apple's terms and conditions previously said that customers who wanted to return products that had been purchased online under Distance Selling Regulations would be liable to pay a service charge for the products to be handled, including collection and processing.

However, Computeractive realised that these charges were illegal and launched a campaign to force Apple to drop the charges. Apple has said that it will take around ten days for it too change the terms and conditions on its website, but that any customers wishing to return products from today onward will no longer be subject to charges.
