Focus Multimedia has signed a deal to be the exclusive distributor for Rovio Entertainment's popular Angry Birds series, offering a way for retailers to sell the phenomenon as a boxed product at last.
The agreement covers exclusive UK distribution for all three Angry Birds titles on PC - Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons.
The original Angry Birds will be the first release, coming on November 25th, with an SRP of £10.20.
Focus Multimedia's managing director Craig Johnson said: "Angry Birds is everywhere, successfully penetrating ever deeper into the mainstream on a daily basis. We’re thrilled to be working with Rovio on the distribution of the Angry Birds PC games across our territories.”
Angry Birds now boasts more than half a billion downloads worldwide. As a download product, this meant the massive wave of enthusiasm for it could only tapped into by retail with toys and accessories - until now.
In fact the brand has just opened its first shop - located in Finland, it opened on November 11th (or maybe you'd prefer 11/11/11), with game-related merchandise from books to bags and Christmas plushes on offer.
Focus has continued to extend its lead as the UK's top budget publisher, revealing that it had a 31.4 per cent market share in budget PC by label (units) in GfK's ChartTrack report for October 2011 - so it will be interesting to see what it does with Angry Birds in its stable. Or should that be in its aviary?
