AMD has reported healthy results for the first quarter of the year, with revenue of $1.57 billion.
The chip maker earned $247 million net income – a huge improvement on Q1 2009’s loss of $416 million.
The results represent AMD’s second consecutive profitable quarter, after Q4 saw the firm return to profit for the first time in three years.
AMD President and CEO Dirk Meyer attributed the results to “strong product offerings and solid operating performance”.
“We continue to strengthen our product offerings. We launched our latest generation of server platforms, expanded our family of DirectX 11-compatible graphics offerings, and commenced shipments of our next-generation notebook platforms to customers,” he said.
Q1’s performance is the first time AMD has not included financials from its manufacturing arm, which in 2009 was spun off into GlobalFoundries.
AMD rival Intel last week reported record first quarter results.
