AMD reports $1.77 billion loss

AMD reports $1.77 billion loss AMD reported a record loss of $1.77 billion for the fourth quarter, although the bulk of the figure is due to the impairment charge following its purchase of graphics card maker, ATI.

The net charges for the quarter were at $1.68 billion, meaning that a non-GAAP operating income loss was at just $9 million; a huge improvement on the $148 million loss reported in the third quarter.

CFO Bob Rivet proclaimed that the company is upbeat about turning things around, and claimed that the company is "maniacally focused on a return to profitability.

In other AMD news, the vendor has confirmed that it is lining up several low-power variants of its quad-core Phenom and dual-core Athlon CPUs for release in February or March this year.
