Chipmaker AMD has gained market share against Intel in the second quarter according to market analysis outfit IDC.
IDC said that AMD had captured 20.4 per cent of the market, up 1.5 per cent against the previous quarter, while dominant player Intel fell by the same amount to 79.3 per cent of the processor market.
The firm said microprocessor shipments declined 2.9 per cent compared to the first quarter and were about flat compared to 2Q10, rising just 0.6 per cent.
The firm also reduced the full year growth in CPU sales for mobile, desktop and servers from 10.3 per cent to 9.3 per cent, citing "economic headwinds in developed regions" which IDC was negatively impacting consumer PC demand.
