AMD has slashed the prices of its single-core Athlon 64 and dual-core Athlon 64 X2 CPUs for all desktop platforms. Additionally, the company has added a new Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition to its range. The reductions come as AMD prepares the launch of the Phenon CPUs, reports tech industry site, digitimes.com. However, the price changes are not predicted to have much impact during the fourth quarter as a result of the predicted switchover to next generation platforms
The tech site also reports that shipping could slightly dip year on year, according to AMD insiders.
