AMD unveiled third quarter financial results which were stronger than expected on the back of sales of the firm's Llano mobile APU.
The Intel rival saw $1.7 billion in sales and booked $97 million in profit. The gains of 4 per cent year-on-year were modest but turning a profile in the third quarter is a pleasant turn of events for the chipmaker.
AMD's renewed fortunes are firmly down to good demand for the mobile APUs with more than 60 per cent increase in APU shipments and record mobile CPU revenue and unit shipments.
"Despite supply constraints, we saw double digit revenue and unit shipment growth in emerging markets like China and India as well as overall notebook share gains in retail at mainstream price points," said AMD chief Rory Read.
The company said that it would look to focus on low power, emerging markets and cloud applications for future growth.
