Amazon has updated the Amazon Touch, replacing the device with the new Kindle Paperwhite.
CEO Jeff Bezos took to the stage at its US press conference, boasting that the firm loves to invent and loves to pioneer. Apparently it also loves turning down alleys that turn out to be blind alleys. But sometimes those blind alleys turn into a bright avenue (yes, he really said that).
After some preamble about the Kindle Fire being a service rather than a gadget, he eventually revealed the name of the first new device of the night: the Kindle Paperwhite.
Of the Paperwhite, Bezos commented: "It didn’t exist, so we had to invent it."
It’s a new Amazon e-reader that features higher resolution, patented built-in light, and 8 weeks of battery life.
The Paperwhite ships October 1st and there are two models – one at $119 and one with 3G at $178.
The old Kindle (or latest generation basic Kindle if you prefer the sound of that) is now available for $69.
So, will the Kindle Paperwhite be available in the UK? The Kindle Fire is already on the UK website (read more about the Fire HD here) , however the Paperwhite isn’t yet and the Touch is still firmly in place. Watch this space…
