Amazon has unveiled a rival software download store for the Apple Mac called the Mac Download Store.
Using a similar strategy to boost adoption as the etail giant employed to promote the firm's Android App Store, the Mac Download store is also offering a number of free applications.
Interestingly, the Amazon store offers some software which Apple's official Mac App Store including Microsoft Office.
"Mac Download store features an install-less download process where the customer gets just the product without any unwanted extras, making for faster and easier purchases," Amazon said in a release.
"Plus, downloads are conveniently backed up in your Games and Software Library where you can download an unlimited number of times for personal use."
