Amazon Web Services has introduced a new pay-as-you-go storage solution, designed for data that is infrequently accessed, yet important.
Amazon Glacier is a budget cloud storage facility intended for use as a data archive and back-up service where customers only pay for what they use.
The low-cost service will be available from upwards of $0.01 per GB per month. It has no upfront free and the cost is based on the capacity of storage used at any given time.
“Amazon Glacier changes the game for companies requiring archiving and backup solutions because you pay nothing upfront, pay a very low price for storage, are able to scale up and down whenever needed, and AWS handles all of the operational heavy lifting required to do data retention well,” said AWS vice president Alyssa Henry.
Launched today, Amazon Glacier is available across the US (Virginia, California and Oregon datacenters), in Asia-Pacific regions and in Europe via its Ireland datacenter.
