Well regarded photo management and editing tool released with better video support and a new photobook feature.

Adobe releases Lightroom 4

Software giant Adobe has released the Adobe Lightroom 4 suite of digital photography tools which now incorporates features a number of improvements and a new photo book creation tool.

Adobe described Lightroom 4 as a "major release" and the software has been in beta since January. The new version introduces superior shadow and highlight processing technology, more local adjustment controls and enhanced video support.

"Feedback from our customers is invaluable in developing Lightroom and the real trick to a great release is to combine these insights with Adobe’s unrivalled image processing innovation," said Adobe Creative Media veep Winston Hendrickson.

The boosted adjustment controls allow users to maximise dynamic range from cameras which can recover shadow details and highlights, Adobe said. Improved auto adjustments to dynamically set values for exposure and contrast are also included and there’s more Noise Reduction, Moire and White Balance controls.

No UK specific channel pricing has been announced but Adobe is selling Adobe Lightroom 4 directly priced at US$149 which is a bit less than £115 quid.
