Acer profit down as revenues increase

Acer profit down as revenues increase Acer saw stable growth from its core division during its first quarter as benefits from its recent acquisitions began to take effect, despite a slowdown in sales in the US as it tries to climb out of the value-laptop bracket and the recent downturn in the economy.

Total revenues for the firm were NT$127.4 billion (£2.1 billion), an increase of 28 per cent for the three months up to March 31st.

Profit was down, however, by 48 per cent from NT$5.66 billion (£95 million) to NT$2.95 billion (£49 million), although much of this was down to the mass share sales during 2007.

It put down much of its success in the US down to its acquisition of Gateway, which accounted for 30 per cent of its sales in the territory. Laptops drove much of the company's sales, with 63 per cent of all PCs sold by the firm being portable.
