Acer has witnessed an increase in sales of its Chromebook by 70 per cent year-on-year.

In the second quarter 2014, Acer was the fourth largest notebook vendor in the world with a market share of 8.2 per cent, according to figures from International Data Corporation, (IDC).

CEO, President Jason Chen, reported that the company’s sales figures have risen, and it is set to launch the Chromebooks in Japan next week.

Acer launched its first Chromebook model, the AC700 in 2011, and has since produced several other models. Currently, Chromebooks account for 10 per cent of the company’s notebook sales, which are available worldwide.

Chromebooks accounted for 21 per cent of notebooks sold in the United States, and Chen revealed that Acer had topped the U.S Chromebook market by 46.7 per cent during the first quarter of 2014.
