Acer aiming to be top mobile PC vendor

Acer is aiming to become the market leader in mobile PCs over the next year, the firm’s chief executive has said.

"We have a good chance to be number one within the next 12 months," Acer’s CEO Gianfranco Lanci told Reuters.

The firm would have to steal the top spot from the current number one, Hewlett-Packard.

Speaking at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Lanci added that the company is aiming to sell 2.5 to 3 million smartphones this year, rising to 7 to 8 million in 2010.

The firm unveiled new netbooks that offer both Windows and Android boot options, as well as a number of new smartphones.
