‘$99 tablets to be the norm this Christmas’ – Intel CEO

The CEO of Intel has predicted that $99 (£61) tablets will be widespread this Christmas, alongside a number of other tech bargains.

During a conference call held with analysts, Brian Krzanich said that he also expected touchscreen-enabled laptops powered by Intel’s own Haswell processors to be available for $299 (£187), while hybrid devices that function as both a laptop and tablet would drop to $349 (£218).

“We [will] continue to see touch adoption come along,” Krzanich said.

Intel announced that it had exceeded revenue and profit expectations, with revenues increasing by five per cent to hit $13.48 billion (£8.43 billion).

Net income was also up, rising by 49 per cent from the previous quarter to reach 58 cents (36p) a share, equal with the same time last year. Previous predictions had set the expected value at 53 cents (33p).
