70% of UK schools use tablets

Almost 70 per cent of secondary and primary schools in the UK now use tablets for learning.

68 per cent of primary schools are using tablets, while 69 per cent of secondary schools are also using such devices, according to a study headed by Barbie Clarke of the Family, Kids and Youth research group.

In nine per cent of schools, research also found that there was an individual tablet for every pupil.

The study, which was commissioned by education technology charity Tablets for Schools, also found that pupils took an internet-connected device with them to bed.

However, research has revealed that there is no evidence to suggest that tablets improve academic learning.

Among the schools that don’t currently use tablets, 45 per cent revealed that they were likely to introduce them soon.
