Two university research centres have been given £7.5 million in government and research council funding to train high-level cybersecurity experts.
From this autumn, two university centres will be set up to train postgraduate students. They will be funded by £5 million from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and £2.5 million from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
Royal Holloway, University of London and Oxford University will develop specialisms in resisting cyber-attacks, which will support the UK’s national cybersecurity programme.
"Businesses are facing more cyber-attacks than ever before, putting their confidential information and intellectual property at risk. We must do everything we can to tackle this threat and make them less vulnerable,” said Universities and Science Minister David Willetts.
“These new centres will produce a new generation of cyber-security specialists, able to use their skills and research expertise to improve cyber-security and drive growth."
