Taiwanese vendor Carapelli has taken the wraps off what it claims is the world's cheapest laptop, coming in at just £65.The Impulse NPX-9000, which has a seven inch screen, is light on specifications with a 400MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 1GB of flash storage – slightly less powerful than a top of the line PC from ten years ago, but with its low price tag has the potential to upset the market.
That compares to the original Asus Eee PC, which came with a 900MHz processor, 512MB RAM and 2GB of flash storage and a £219 price tag.
The device, which runs on Linux, could pose a serious threat not just to other more expensive netbooks, especially with recent comments from IDC to PC Retail suggesting UK consumers are more concerned about price than specification, but also V-Tech's line of electronic learning aids, which retail for around £75.
It is available to retailers now from Alibaba in orders of 100.
