An analyst for the firm manufacturing the 3G iPhone has said that Apple could ship as many as 18 million devices this year, thanks to its pricing."The higher expectation on the 3G iPhone reflects attractive prices and a broader distribution channel," wrote analyst at CLSA Emerging Markets, Jenny Lai. "The newly added white colour for the 3G iPhone also bodes well to consumers."
Comparing the new pricing and its potential for success to Motorala's similar move with its Razr phone, Lai said that demand for the device could explode in the coming months.
However, she expects the device to be in short supply for the first month it goes on sale as pent up demand for the product converges on limited supplies, but that after that point, supply should improve.
