A PCR survey, in association with research group Infinite Field Marketing Solutions, has found that 16 per cent of retailers do not think that the upcoming release of Windows 7 will have a positive effect on channel sales, while a further 17 per cent are not sure.
The research, covering around 1,200 retailers in the UK, also found that 67 per cent of respondents felt that the forthcoming operating system is likely to boost sales in the channel.
Windows 7, which is due to be released on October 22nd, brings a number of new features to users, including touch support, power saving and a certain degree of backwards compatibility, designed to make the operating system much more appealing to a far wider range of consumers than previous incarnations.
However, the specifications required for Windows 7 are the same as with Windows Vista, meaning that pickings may be slimmer for those who rely heavily on component sales and upgrades.
