Selected games to be preloaded on Xperia mini models

PopCap lands on Sony Ericsson phones

Casual games firm PopCap has announced a global deal with Sony Ericsson to pre-load ‘Games by PopCap’ onto its Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro models.

Puzzle game Chuzzle will be embedded in its entirety, while other popular games such as Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle will be included as unlimited trial modes – with the option to buy the full version using an integrated billing service.

Giordano Bruno Contestabile, PopCap’s senior director of global product and business strategy for mobile, said: “As the Android ecosystem matures, PopCap is committed to providing best-in-class game experiences for Android game players. The Sony Ericsson Xperia mini devices are equipped with superior processing power and exceptional screen resolution, which provides an excellent platform for delivering the quality fun that our fans have come to expect.”

“By partnering with companies such as PopCap, we are demonstrating our commitment to bringing the very best communication and entertainment experiences to our phones,” said Fredrik Mansson, global product marketing manager at Sony Ericsson.

PopCap has also announced a new game from its experimental 4th & Battery label today – Allied Star Police – a title created by a nine-year-old.

Owain Weinart is a Make-A-Wish foundation recipient who worked closely with the 4th & Battery team to help bring his game idea to life.

“Owain was literally like every other designer and developer I’ve worked with," said Matthew Lee Johnston, Senior Producer at 4th & Battery. “The minute he walked in the door he handed us a fully realized game design, figured out to the last detail. He stuck with that vision, and directed the team through the development process like a pro. When he first sat down to play it, he naturally knew what to do and won his first round easily, which felt to us like we did a good job executing on his plan.”

Allied Star Police is available for free from the App Sotre for iPad, iPhone and iPod.
