Hugely popular US service promises local flavor

US music video site Vevo launches in the UK

Music video service Vevo has begun testing a UK version of the site, the first launch of the service outside of the US.

Operated by music labels Sony and Universal, Vevo offers advertising-supported music videos and supporting content. The firm is exploring partnerships with Channel 4, Virgin Media and ITV.

The UK site will offer access to all the US-sourced music videos and additionally offer live concerns from the UK and the US. Original television series will also be offered Vevo mobile supports Android, iPhones and iPads.

"Because the U.K. market is very different and very special, our aim is to make the platform chock-full of music videos, interviews, live events, competitions and much more all from local artists (with some international superstars mixed in as well)," said Vevo boss Rio Caraeff.

Vevo is planning on introducing a ‘wedding video playlist of royal proportions’ to coincide with the launch.
