Apple could be forced to stop selling iPads and iPhones in the US as it is being sued by a Taiwanese firm that claims the devices’ multi-touch technology infringes its patent.
The US International Trade Commission has launched an investigation into the claim filed by Elan Microelectronics Corporation on 29 March.
Elan is demanding that the ITC bans Apple from importing or selling the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, MacBook or Magic Mouse in the US. According to the firm, these devices’ multi-touch enabled touchpads or touchscreens infringe its patent.
“Elan is looking to the ITC for expeditious adjudication of its infringement claims,” the firm said in a statement released after it filed the claim last month.
