Time names Vista as top-ten tech failure for past decade

Influential magazine includes OS alongside products such as Zune, HD DVD and the Segway

Time magazine has listed Windows Vista in its top ten biggest tech failures of the last decade, along with HD DVD, Microsoft's Zune and the Segway.

The US weekly said that the operating system has been "created to improve the security of the most widely used PC operating system in the world," but, "the securities features were not much better than the previous versions of Windows based on most reviews of the software."

Another reason it said Vista had been included in the list was due to it not being "compatible with a number of older PCs which limited the number of users who were likely to upgrade from the earlier version of Windows, known as XP."

Time also pointed out that even the most positive of reviews had said that the OS was a 'nice-to-have product rather than a must-have'.

Failure?

How can it be a failure with the comment 'nice-to-have product rather than a must-have'. XP had no end of compatibility problems when it was released (with Win98) and there was no major reason to upgrade from Win2000 to XP either (initially). Windows 7 is based on Vista so Vista has turned into a stepping stone.

For most users there was no point upgrading to Vista, but a technology disaster, come on.
