USA: Global services division likely to be hardest hit as vendor looks to shift positions to emerging markets

IBM is preparing to lay off 5,000 workers in the US, according to reports in today's Financial Times.

The vendor, which has the largest technology workforce in the US at 100,000 employees, is though to be looking to shift position to China and India where it is experiencing high demand for its products.

Many of the cuts are expected to take place in its global services division, which currently deals with contracts and sales in those countries.
