UK's second largest supermarket goes head to head with Tesco, Argos, DSGi and Comet with large electricals range
Asda has stepped up its challenge to become one of the largest non-food retailers in the UK with the launch of its Asda Direct service, intended to take market share away from fierce rivals Tesco, Argos, DSGi and Comet.
Details of Asda's plans to launch its own specialist non-food operation emerged as far back as January, with sources at the UK's second largest supermarket chain describing the firm's intentions to deliver the 'ultimate online retail experience'.
The website, which is active now, offers over 9,000 products including a range of laptops, desktops and software, as well as a wide range of consumer electronics, will be accompanied by the launch of a 644-page catalogue in the coming days.
A spokesperson for the supermarket told Sunday's Observer that the website was still in 'trial' mode.

I placed an order with Asda Direct on 2 October and to date have not received my order, although my credit card was debited on the 2/10. I have phoned the Customer Service team 3 times, and wrote to the CEO on 21 October but haven't had a response - not even an acknowledgement of my complaint. Not impressed.
I have been trying to place an order now for weeks. The item I need always shows out of stock - when I call the only telephone number listed I am told they do not have the facility to check stock and I should just keep trying. Why do Asda Direct not have email contact address, or any idea as to when stock is to arrive like all the other companies they are trying to compete with. If they are hoping to succeed with "Online" business they must implement email addresses.
why is it that asda driect have on email address. I been trying to place a order for some time, and it all ways out of stock and you can not get help from any one at asda not impressed by asda direct
Placed an order for a dolls house as advertised in all the newspapers on 2nd November. The online site allowed me to place the order and took payment. I rang today to enquire why the item has not been delivered and asked to speak to a manager. What do you know, all managers were in a meeting, however they promised me i would recieve a call back. After no call back, I contacted them again this evening. They stated that the item was not in stock and payment had been refunded. I asked why they had not contacted me to which they had no answer. They have promised me a call back with an explanation, i'm not holding my breath. It concerns me at how bad this service is when you think of the size of the company. Do not buy anything from this online site it is hopeless.
How do I get hold of a catalogue?
Why the hell does a online business have no form of online communication between its customer service and its clients?

disgusted at the treatment ive had from asda ordered an item of furniture on 15th may cancelled it on the 28th may coz of not receiving item which was paid for on the 18th may its now the 4th june 09 still havnt received money back into my account sick of ringing and speaking to people whos english i s appalling they lie to you dont know what there doing im now going to go to the media and watchdog to warn people DO NOT BUY FROM ASDA DIRECT as they take your money but dont deliver the goods ........
Bought a weight bench from Asda Direct. They delivered it without arranging delivery first of all. Once it came it was atotally different item to that of which they are advertising. Therefore they are falsely advertising products. Contacted them about this immediately and spoke to someone whos English was terrible, they cut me off in error and then called back saying I needed to call the Manufacturer of the product. Why would I need to contact the manufacturer about this when it is Asda selling the goods incorrectly. Called the manufacturer on the number provided and they had no idea what I was talking about. Called Asda again and spoke to anpother person whos English was terrible. They put me through to the manufacturer to arrange collection. Am now awaiting a call back to arrange this and get a refund. Expect I will have to call and complain about it all though. *Do not buy from Asda Direct unless you want 2nd rate service. Also I would not advise to there credit card as that is terrible service run by people who can't speak English also.
Just found a free phone number for asda direct and stores. It is 0500 100055. Just follow the options through to the relevant department. At least this way you can complain and not have it costing you anything. Enjoy :)
Purchased an oven from Asda direct, arrived damaged made several phone calls to the help line (thats a joke for a start), nobody seemed to understand the correct procedure for the refund.
Eventually got oven returned and was told that it would take 10 days for the refund to come through!!!!!???.
On phoning today hanging on the line for the obligatory 10 mins, was told that they would needto contact the depot on Monday to see if the item was there.
Noone phones me back after specifically asking to be kept updated with what is happening with my refund, i.e. MY MONEY.
Word of advice DO NOT USE ASDA DIRECT.
I have dealt with Tesco and thgey are so much more professional and helpfull.
i would like to know why when advised to buy DVD's on line as it would be cheaper, why was the same DVD less than half the price i paid in store!!!! mad as i bought 3 and they were all cheaper in store, the idea was to order early for a discount......well someone's nose is growing!!!!!!!!
I ordered a sofa bed at the end of November it's now mid jan and still no delivery. I have chased asda for a delivery date and written to andrew bond their CEO but no one ever rings back and the CEO has not even acknowledged my e-mail to him. I will never buy anything from this company again.
Totally disgusted with asda direct. Do not order. I ordered a rug and received confirmation of order and paid in full. I received a rug 2 days later but not the one I ordered. They sent a rug more than half the size. I phoned them and they informed me it was out of stock, therefore they just sent something they had in stock. I paid £143 for a rug but was sent one valued at£18. Were they just hoping I would accept something I didn't want. Phoned them but they were not helpful at all and by looking at all the other complaints might find it hard to get my money back. I can't believe they do not have an e-mail address. Don't they want to know where they are going wrong
Ordered tv 30/11/09, delivered promptly but damaged. Was collected by courier on 7/12/09. Still waiting to be credited. Have tried their help line 3 times, each time promised a call back - still waiting. Each assistant had different stories. One said it had been credited even before it had been delivered.
Their policy is to credit with 7 - 10 days, now up to 50 days and not credit. WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS SO THAT YOU CAN CONTACT THEM DIRECT INSTEAD OF PREMIUM RATE PHONE CALLS. WILL NOT USE THEM AGAIN. VERY POOR SERVICE
Ordered a wardrobe and chest of draws. Got a call saying part had been delivered to the wrong warehouse. We said we wanted both delivered at the same time so had to wait a few more days. It was ment to be delivered yesterday (12/2/10) only the wardrobe turned up. Part of the wardrobe was damaged so cant even put it together. Cant get hold of the delivery company to find out where the chest of draws is. The replacement damaged part could take up to 7 working days to get here. We have no wardrobe, as dismantled the old one, clothes all over the place. Have to climb over a broken wardrobe with a 3 month old baby. My partner has lost money from not working today to put the furniture together, and will now have to take another day off to put it all together whenever we actually get it all. I will have to stay in another day to wait for a delivery. All we have been offered so far is the delivery charge refunded and a £10 voucher, which was then upped to £30 when i said that wasnt good enough. At the moment still have no idea when we will get a replacement part, thats if they send the right bit. Or where our chest of draws is.
I don't know why? when they cannot compete with others why they annoy costumers?
Just imagine they told me about delivery date and I stayed at home for whole day but nothing happened?!!when I called they said sorry we forgot passing your order to supplier?!!!!
how disgusting it is when you use your leave to stay at home for delivery?!!
I advice you never buy from newly installed services like asda direct and go for better well known companies...
I would never buy anything from these people!!!!
