Microsoft dismisses Vista criticism

Moulster says operating system is 'fastest selling ever'

After attracting a fair amount of criticism for Vista, Microsoft has come back swinging – defending the operating system by claiming it is the most popular and fastest selling version of Windows the firm has ever released.

After announcing that it would be providing support to XP for an extended period – offering patches and updates until 2014, which will be the longest time it has done so for any one of its operating systems – many industry watchers were quick to claim this move was due to a comparatively low uptake of Vista.

However, Ian Moulster, Windows Live commercial product manager at Microsoft UK rebuked these claims, saying: "More than 140 million copies of Windows Vista have already sold, making it the fastest selling operating system in Microsoft history.

"Over 2.5 million enterprise PCs are running Windows Vista around the world. UK consumers have embraced Windows Vista with sales in the first six months exceeding even those of Windows XP making it our most popular OS to date."

When asked about the rising popularity of Open Source, Moulster continued: "We believe that Windows Vista is the best, most secure, and most advanced OS."

I love the line about "UK consumers embracing vista." I would hazard a guess that the figures would be different if the consumer had a choice! And as for security I think this gentleman is living in some sort of protective bubble. Vista is a hackers paradise and for all it's annoying security "gimmicks", the hackers have had a field day from day one. I am currently doing more virus removal and re-installations than ever before. Good business for me but not for the consumer!!!

Vista is selling because hardware, particularly laptops have come down in price. It is selling to home users because they have little choice. None of my customers want Vista, they have asked me to stockpile XP. They will not change at any price. I have taken Vista off at least 25 machines. As for Vista "downgrade" - XP = useable system more like. I have lost track of the number of people, business customers and friends, who have asked me to do this for them or help them do it for themselves.
Get real Microsoft, for once admit you have ****ed-up.

Dont the comments here say it all?, Microsoft have their head in the clouds, Vista sells to "newbies" who know no better, it's bundled with all the laptops, we have real hassle getting laptops with XP or Linux, but still we are selling 8 XP to every 1 Vista, and recently 1 Linux in ten!
