Piracy is killing PC games, says COD4 developer

But game to progress to Macs in May 2008

Infinity Ward, developer of Call of Duty 4, has cited piracy as the main reason for the decline in PC gaming. Infinity Ward’s community relations manager expressed his amazement in a blog entitled They Wonder Why People Don’t Make PC Games Any More.

“On another PC-related note, we pulled some disturbing numbers this past week about the amount of PC players currently playing Multiplayer (which was fantastic),” wrote the unnamed employee. “What wasn’t fantastic was the percentage of those numbers who were playing on stolen copies of the game on cracked CD keys of pirated copies (and that was only the people playing online).

“Not sure if I can share the exact numbers or percentage of PC players with you, but I’ll check and see; if I can I’ll update with them. As the amount of people who pirate PC games is astounding. It blows me away at the amount of people willing to steal games (or anything) simply because it’s not physical… it’s safe to do on the internet.”

Despite the claims, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was still the number one game for PCs earlier this month, pushing World of Warcraft into the number two position.

Meanwhile at MacWorld, Aspyr Media has announced it is to publish the game for Macs. The game is scheduled for a May release and will be available for $49.99.

$50 US for a PC game imagine that and people can't buy food anymore.
Why don't they see about solving the food crisis and high cost of living we are currently face with if they want to make sales.
The world is screwed as I see it. Even if I could not buy a burn game on the streets I would do without rather than buy an original.
Just to bloddy expensive so in any event they won't loose a dollar from me. Not everyone lives in the white man country where food is dog cheap and cost of living is ultra low and u get free money from the government so not everyone fortunate enough to buy original high priced pc games,

To the last comment; I don't want to pay $300 per failure box 360 and having to pay 60 dollars per game not to mention over priced proprietary hard disk drives. When PC's and laptops hard disk drives from the original makers are priced better. Who said people paid two thousand dollars for a computer? ASSume much? Are you supposed to be enjoying your xbox 360 oh wait you're crap is probably with Microsoft again for a 4th time or so. Or Microsoft sent you back another red ring of death Xbox.
