£30 million investment planned for poorer areas
The Government plans to spend £30 million ($59 million) on bringing broadband services to schoolchildren from low-income families, according to the minister for schools and learners, Jim Knight.
71 per cent of UK households have access to the internet, 53 per cent of which have broadband. However, reaching the less well off is proving difficult as poorer families often can’t afford a phone line, with many not having a credit rating needed to obtain one.
The Government plans include providing low-income families with PCs to use, which could drive up demand for software and peripherals in these areas.

i am looking fo a free pc for my son i am lowincome and i am having problems finding a cheap pc for him my husban lost his job last month so i am the one who is trying to hang in there with my job please help me .
And I run a small computer shop that builds and repairs PCs, let's hope that government will look to the likes of us to supply these cheap PCs! Sadly, I suspect they will not even consider this as a possibility but will immediately contact one of the 'big boys' as suppliers - most likely one of their mates with a healthy kickback for the minister involved?
This could be a 'win win' situation for all concerned but, as usual, I suspect we will not get a look in!
